Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) ahead of the 2027 general elections, marking a significant political shift in the state.

The announcement was made on Saturday at the Government House in Bauchi during a large gathering attended by APM national leaders, government officials, and political stakeholders aligned with the governor’s camp.
Speaking at the event, Mohammed described the decision as strategic and the result of wide consultations with political associates and stakeholders across the state.
He said the move was driven by the need to reposition politically ahead of the 2027 elections and to ensure his supporters remain within a structured and viable political platform.

According to him, the transition to APM is aimed at strengthening his political base and sustaining what he described as effective mobilisation for future electoral contests.
The governor noted that continued alignment with his former party no longer offered the level of cohesion required to achieve his political and administrative goals.

Despite the defection, Mohammed expressed appreciation to the PDP for providing the platform through which he became governor in 2019 and contributed to the state’s development.
His move is seen as a major setback for the PDP, given his previous role as Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, where he was regarded as one of the party’s influential figures.

During the event, the APM leadership officially welcomed him into the party, presenting him with membership materials and formally inducting him into its structure.
The defection followed a closed-door meeting with political stakeholders earlier in the day, where the decision was reportedly finalized.
