KWARA GOVT DENIES NEGLECTING SECURITY, DEFENDS ‘SENSITIVE’ SPENDING

The Kwara State Government has defended its security spending, insisting it is actively investing substantial resources to address insecurity despite reports suggesting zero expenditure on security equipment in the first quarter of 2026.

The clarification came after an analysis of official budget performance documents indicated that although ₦4.5 billion was allocated for security equipment in the 2026 fiscal year, no funds were reportedly disbursed or spent between January and March.

In response, the Special Adviser on Media to the Governor, Bashir Adigun, rejected the claims, stating that the government remains committed to supporting both federal security operations and local initiatives aimed at curbing banditry and terrorism.

He explained that the state is funding surveillance operations, including aerial patrols and other security interventions, while also strengthening community-based resilience efforts across affected areas.

The government, however, did not directly address the specific issue raised in the budget report regarding the absence of recorded capital expenditure on security equipment during the period in question. Instead, it emphasized that security-related spending is sensitive and must be handled carefully to avoid compromising ongoing operations.

It further noted that its security efforts are well known to security agencies and local vigilante groups operating within the state, adding that transparency must be balanced with operational security considerations.
