A former Special Adviser on Housing to the Lagos State Government, Barakat Odunuga-Bakare, has received endorsements from key stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Surulere 1 constituency ahead of the 2027 Lagos State House of Assembly elections.
Her endorsement followed a weeklong consultation tour across all wards in the constituency, where she met party leaders and stakeholders to seek support for her ambition. The tour reportedly covered several wards, ending on Saturday with growing backing from local political figures.
Odunuga-Bakare, who recently resigned from her role in the administration of Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, is contesting for the APC ticket alongside incumbent lawmaker Desmond Elliot, who currently represents Surulere 1 and is seeking a fourth term in office.
During the engagement, some APC leaders in the constituency praised her experience in public service and expressed confidence in her ability to represent the area effectively if elected.
One party stakeholder noted that her background in governance and legislative work positions her as a strong candidate capable of delivering development-focused representation for the constituency.
Another APC leader acknowledged the contributions of the incumbent but argued that it was time for new leadership, describing Odunuga-Bakare as a capable and reliable alternative.
In her remarks, Odunuga-Bakare expressed appreciation for the support received, promising to prioritize development and stronger representation for Surulere if given the party’s ticket. She also called for unity within the party ahead of the primaries scheduled for March 20.
She further demonstrated support for party mobilisation efforts by making financial contributions to members across the wards visited.
