‘WE STRANGLED HIM TO DEATH’: 21- AND 22-YEAR-OLD SUSPECTS REVEAL HOW THEY KILLED 17-YEAR-OLD THOMPSON OMOKAFE

A 17-year-old student, Thompson Adams Omokafe, has been tragically killed in Lagos after he was allegedly lured to his death by people he knew.

The incident, which occurred in the Awoyaya area of Ibeju-Lekki in late April 2026, has sparked widespread outrage and renewed concerns about safety and trust among young people.

According to reports, Thompson—who had just completed his UTME—was invited to an apartment by a former schoolmate, Elijah Emmanuel, under the pretense of collecting a laptop. Another suspect, Tony Ogenata, was also said to be involved.

Investigations suggest the meeting was a setup. The suspects allegedly planned to kidnap the teenager for ransom, believing he came from a wealthy background. They reportedly demanded as much as ₦200 million from his family, later negotiating down to lower amounts.

Despite ongoing negotiations, the suspects allegedly killed the teenager after realizing he could identify them. His body was reportedly tied and dumped in a bag near a canal in Awoyaya.

After the crime, the suspects fled to Ikorodu but were later tracked and arrested by operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit. Shockingly, reports indicate they continued to contact the victim’s family and even collected ₦200,000 through a POS transaction before their arrest.

During interrogation, the suspects allegedly confessed that the act was premeditated and driven by the desire for quick money. Authorities say there was little sign of remorse, with one reportedly expressing regret only over not getting the full ransom.

The incident has drawn strong reactions from Nigerians, many of whom have condemned the killing and called for justice. The fact that the victim was allegedly targeted by people he trusted has deepened public concern.

As investigations continue, the case highlights the dangers of greed and the growing need for vigilance, even among familiar faces. It has also intensified calls for stricter law enforcement and broader efforts to address the factors contributing to such violent crimes.
