GOV. SEYI MAKINDE INTRODUCES DAILY ENVIRONMENTAL SANITATION

The Oyo State Government has rolled out a new daily environmental sanitation monitoring and enforcement system as part of efforts to promote a cleaner and healthier environment across the state.

Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Ademola Aderinto, announced the initiative in a statement marking his first 100 days in office, noting a shift from the traditional monthly sanitation exercise to a more consistent, everyday approach.

According to him, the new system is designed to encourage residents to take personal responsibility for cleanliness, with environmental health officers now deployed daily to monitor compliance and enforce sanitation standards.

“We are now enforcing daily environmental sanitation. Our officers are on the field every day to ensure compliance. Cleanliness must become a daily responsibility,” Aderinto said.

To strengthen implementation, the ministry has re-engaged 930 environmental workers, including vanguards, sweepers, and waste packers, to boost coverage and enforcement across the state.

The commissioner also disclosed that two new compactor trucks had been procured with the support of Governor Seyi Makinde to improve waste evacuation and disposal efficiency.

He added that sanitation workers now operate in two shifts daily to maintain cleaner roads and public spaces, while also benefiting from enrolment in the Oyo State Health Insurance Scheme.

As part of efforts to deepen public participation, the ministry has introduced the “Oyo Soro Soke (Oyo SSS)” Environmental Whistle-blower platform, which allows residents to report environmental violations via mobile applications and WhatsApp.

Aderinto said the initiative reflects the government’s broader commitment to improving environmental standards through innovation, community involvement, and stronger enforcement mechanisms.
