DRAMA AS KWARA GOVERNOR’S COUSIN JOINS NDC TO CONTEST AGAINST APC IN 2027

Fresh political tension has reportedly emerged within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State following the emergence of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s cousin, AbdulRahman Giwa, as a governorship aspirant under the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The development has sparked discussions about possible political divisions and shifting alliances ahead of the 2027 governorship election in the state.

According to reports, Giwa’s decision to contest on the platform of an opposition party has created fresh uncertainty within the APC, especially as political camps begin positioning for the succession race after Governor AbdulRazaq’s tenure.

The situation comes shortly after the NDC gained increased national attention following reports of political alignment involving former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi and former Kano State governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

Sources familiar with the matter disclosed that the NDC has recently intensified efforts to establish its presence in Kwara State, including the inauguration of party executives during a congress reportedly held in Ilorin.

The controversy surrounding Giwa’s governorship ambition deepened after campaign posters supporting his candidacy surfaced online.

Reports also claimed that the materials were circulated by Alhaji Abdul-Razhaq Abubakar Jiddah, Special Adviser to the governor on Special Duties, a move that has generated speculation about possible internal sympathy for the new political movement among some members of the current administration.

Some APC stakeholders reportedly expressed concerns that the development could deepen internal disagreements within the ruling party as the battle for succession gradually unfolds ahead of the 2027 elections.

Political observers believe the situation may further reshape alliances and calculations within Kwara politics in the coming months.
