The African Union Commission has appointed former Nigerian President, Olusegun Obasanjo, to support ongoing efforts aimed at promoting peace and stability in the Horn of Africa region.

The appointment was announced by the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, who described Obasanjo as a leader with exceptional experience, credibility, and deep understanding of conflict resolution.

In his new role, Obasanjo is expected to engage relevant stakeholders across the region to encourage dialogue, build trust, and support initiatives aimed at achieving lasting peace, reconciliation, and stability.
The African Union stated that the appointment reflects its continued commitment to strengthening peace processes and addressing ongoing tensions in the Horn of Africa.
The AU Commission also expressed appreciation to the former Nigerian president for accepting the assignment, noting that his involvement is expected to add significant value to regional peace efforts.
