KANO GOVT, NAPTIP UNCOVERS CHILD’S ADOPTION CHAINS

Authorities in Kano State have uncovered an alleged child trafficking and illegal adoption network involving vulnerable young women and the movement of children out of the state without proper legal approval.

The investigation began after a report surfaced alleging that two children were unlawfully taken and adopted by a staff member of Abdullahi Wase Specialist Hospital, identified as a 45-year-old laboratory technician. The case was subsequently escalated to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), which alerted the Kano State Ministry of Women Affairs for immediate action.

Preliminary findings suggest that some individuals may have been exploiting young women with unwanted pregnancies, collecting newborns under questionable circumstances, and transferring them to other parts of the country for illegal adoption and possible trafficking activities.

Officials from the Kano State Ministry of Women Affairs, led by Commissioner Amina Abdullahi Sani, visited NAPTIP to coordinate investigations and ensure proper handling of the case. The two children involved have since been handed over to authorities as inquiries continue.

The commissioner strongly condemned the alleged activities, describing them as criminal and harmful to children’s rights, cultural identity, and welfare. She also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting vulnerable persons and ensuring that anyone found responsible is prosecuted.

Authorities have urged the public to remain alert and report any suspected cases of child trafficking or illegal adoption as investigations into the matter continue.
