KADUNA APC PRIMARIES: SHEHU SANI, KATUNG, YERO SECURE SENATE TICKETS IN FIERCE CONTESTS

Katung, Sani, Yero Clinch APC Senatorial Tickets in Kaduna Amid Protest

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has conducted its senatorial primaries in Kaduna State, with victories recorded for Sunday Marshall Katung, Shehu Sani, and former governor Ramalan Yero across the state’s three senatorial districts.

In Kaduna South, Katung emerged winner after defeating former Senator Danjuma Tella Laah and Michael Ayuba Auta in a primary election held across the district’s eight local government areas.

Announcing the results at the collation centre in Jema’a Local Government Area, the Returning Officer, John Laah of the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, described the process as peaceful, transparent, and credible.

Katung polled 7,453 votes, while Laah scored 1,370 votes and Auta got 878 votes. The officer noted that delegates from Kagarko, Sanga, Kauru, Zangon Kataf, Kaura, Jema’a, Jaba, and Kachia all participated peacefully in the exercise.

In Kaduna Central, former senator Shehu Sani secured the party’s ticket after polling 9,105 votes to defeat Yusuf Zailani, who scored 1,021 votes. Yerima Shettima, who had earlier withdrawn from the race, still polled 1,253 votes.

Reacting to his victory, Sani thanked President Bola Tinubu, Governor Uba Sani, party delegates, and supporters for their confidence in him, while calling for unity among party members ahead of the general elections.

In Kaduna North, former governor Ramalan Mukhtar Yero also clinched the APC ticket after scoring 6,060 votes to defeat Muazu Mukaddas, who polled 1,044 votes, and Engineer Bala Ikara, who secured 362 votes.

Despite the outcomes, the exercise was not without controversy, as a coalition of aggrieved aspirants led by Danjuma Laah protested the process, alleging irregularities and claims of imposed consensus arrangements during the primaries.
