Terror Attack in Oyo: 46 Teachers, Pupils Including Toddler Abducted in Orire LG

Tragedy has struck several communities in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State after terrorists reportedly abducted 46 persons, including seven teachers and 39 students, in a coordinated attack on schools in the area.

Among the victims is a two-year-old toddler, Christianah Akanbi, from Yawota Baptist Nursery and Primary School, whose name was listed among those taken during the raid.

Community leaders confirmed that the victims were taken from two schools — Community High School, Ahoro-Esinele, and Yawota Baptist Nursery and Primary School — during the Friday attack.

They also disclosed that four motorcycles belonging to residents were stolen during the incident, with three taken from Yawota community and one from the high school.

Those abducted from the schools include:

Mr. Ojo Jonathan – Vice Principal

Mr. Olatunde Zacchaeus – Teacher

Mr. John Olaleye – Teacher

Mr. Michael Oyedokun – Teacher

Mrs. Oladeji – Teacher

Mary Akanbi – Teacher, Yawota Baptist Nursery and Primary School

Students and Pupils Abducted

The victims include children as young as two years old, with several pupils taken from different communities including Ahoro-Esinele, Yawota, Oniya, and Alawusa.

Community Reaction

Following the attack, teachers in the affected areas have suspended academic activities, expressing fear over rising insecurity and calling on authorities to act swiftly to secure the release of the victims.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage, with residents urging both the Federal Government and Oyo State Government to intensify rescue efforts.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has also condemned the attack and assured that efforts are underway to ensure the safe return of all abducted persons.
