According to military authorities, the strikes were carried out around Metele in Borno State following credible intelligence that identified the movement and concentration of insurgents in the area. The operation targeted terrorist hideouts and was described as part of an ongoing effort to dismantle extremist networks and disrupt their activities.

A Defence Headquarters spokesperson stated that the joint mission is part of intensified counterterrorism operations aimed at destroying insurgent strongholds and preventing regrouping. Surveillance efforts reportedly enabled the identification of new terrorist gatherings, which were then hit with precision airstrikes.

The military reaffirmed its commitment to eliminating threats across the country, stressing that terrorist elements would continue to be tracked and neutralised to ensure national security.

This latest development follows recent reports of a joint Nigeria–US operation that resulted in the killing of a high-ranking ISIS commander in a separate mission, underscoring ongoing international cooperation against extremist groups in the region.
