The Lagos State Government has approved designated mining sites for Hitech Construction Company to support ongoing work on the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road project.
The announcement was made during the 2026 Ministerial Press Briefing of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources in Alausa, where officials highlighted progress made in infrastructure and resource management over the past year.
According to the Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Biodun Ogunleye, the approved sites located in areas such as Ilamija, Kajola, Orimedu, and Akodo are intended to ensure a steady supply of construction materials for the major highway project.
The government explained that the borrow pits and mining corridors are strategically activated to support continuous road development along key coastal routes.
Officials also revealed that the state is monitoring multiple mineral resource locations across Lagos, with several active and inactive sites spread across Ikorodu, Epe, Ibeju-Lekki, Ajah, and Badagry. Efforts have also been introduced to improve compliance and revenue tracking in the sector through approved consultants.
In addition, joint enforcement operations with waste management authorities have been deployed along major corridors to control environmental issues linked to sand mining and construction activity.
The ministry further noted ongoing infrastructure support efforts, including energy corridor development projects, marine fuel stations for waterways transport, and new licences issued for power generation and distribution initiatives across the state.
The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, a major federal infrastructure project spanning multiple coastal states, is currently under construction with sections in Lagos already underway.
