President Bola Tinubu has appointed 39-year-old Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), marking a major leadership transition in one of Nigeria’s key education agencies.
Professor Aina will succeed Professor Is-haq Oloyede, whose second term ends on July 31, 2026.

Aina, who turns 40 in July, is an accomplished academic and systems expert with strong experience in national examination processes, digital infrastructure, and institutional reform in the public sector.
He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, a Master’s in Internet Computing and Network Security, and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University, United Kingdom. He also completed the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.

Currently a professor of computer engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, he began his career with JAMB during his National Youth Service, where he was exposed to national admissions systems and data-driven educational processes.
With over 15 years of professional experience, he has worked across the intersection of technology, policy, and governance, advising government institutions on digital transformation and operational reforms.

He is also recognised as one of Nigeria’s youngest professors in computer engineering and is expected to become the youngest person to ever lead JAMB.
Aina has served as a consultant to examination bodies such as NECO and NABTEB, as well as several state education ministries, focusing on ICT systems, examination integrity, and digital efficiency.
He is a member of professional organisations including COREN, NSE, IEEE, and IET.
According to a statement by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, the appointment is expected to strengthen JAMB’s operations and build on the progress achieved under the outgoing registrar.
