Lagos State Deputy Governor, Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, has won the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election in Lagos State, securing the party’s ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The result was announced at the collation centre at the APC Secretariat in Ikeja by the Returning Officer, retired General Jonathan Temlong.

According to the announcement, Hamzat secured a total of 657,917 votes, while his opponent, Olanrewaju Jim-Kamal, received just one vote.
Temlong stated that 657,974 delegates were accredited for the exercise, which he described as peaceful and orderly across Lagos State’s 245 wards in the 20 local government areas.

He added that the process was conducted in line with the party’s guidelines and reflected a “family-style” internal election.
The Returning Officer also commended officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for observing the exercise.

A breakdown of the results showed Hamzat winning across all local government areas, including 74,501 votes in Alimosho, 55,148 in Ikorodu, 51,600 in Kosofe, and 49,079 in Lagos Mainland, among others.
Other notable scores included 37,680 in Epe, 38,627 in Ifako-Ijaiye, 36,372 in Ojo, and 31,972 in Oshodi-Isolo, further confirming his dominance across the state.
He was subsequently declared the APC governorship candidate for Lagos State in the 2027 elections.
The Lagos State APC Chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi, praised party members and officials for conducting a smooth and credible primary election, describing it as a demonstration of unity within the party.

He also noted that the exercise reflected strong internal cohesion ahead of the general elections.
In his acceptance speech, Hamzat thanked President Bola Tinubu, APC leaders, and party members for their support, promising to continue the administration’s developmental agenda in Lagos State if elected governor.
He also pledged inclusive governance and continuity of ongoing projects across the state.
Some earlier aspirants, including Abdul-Azeez Adediran (Jandor) and Samuel Ajose, withdrew from the race before the primary, leaving Hamzat as the dominant contender.
