Troops carrying out clearance operations from Bukuyum town in Zamfara State have engaged armed bandits in a heavy gun battle during an ongoing offensive around the Tsilligidi forest area.

Security analyst and counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama disclosed the development in a post on his X handle on Friday, noting that the operation followed intelligence reports on the movement of armed groups within the forest corridor.
According to the report, the soldiers advanced toward suspected hideouts after receiving actionable intelligence. The armed groups, upon detecting the troops, attempted to flee through routes linking Kundubu and Gizazz villages in an effort to avoid being intercepted.

The fleeing suspects were later intercepted by the advancing troops, leading to an intense exchange of fire. Several of the armed men were reportedly neutralised, while others escaped with gunshot injuries into surrounding bushes.

The operation is part of ongoing military efforts aimed at dismantling bandit camps and restoring safety to communities across Zamfara State. Clearance and pursuit operations were still ongoing as troops continued to track fleeing suspects.
