In a letter addressed to the President and titled “A Humble Appeal for Fairness, Transparency, and Justice in the Ongoing Military Trial,” the women urged authorities to avoid any form of bias or predetermined outcome in the handling of the case.

The group, made up of spouses of the detained officers, said they acknowledged the importance of discipline within the armed forces and the need to safeguard national security, especially in matters involving allegations of mutiny or attempts to undermine military authority.

However, they expressed concern that the proceedings could be affected by coercion, prejudice, or unfair treatment, stressing that justice must not only be done but must also be seen to be done.

They referenced past controversial military trials in the country, noting that some cases had later attracted public criticism and regret, and warned against repeating similar patterns.

The wives also raised concerns about the prolonged detention of the officers and alleged reports of harsh treatment, as well as claims that some statements may have been obtained under pressure.

They insisted that no individual should be convicted without credible and independently verifiable evidence, adding that confessions allegedly obtained through coercion should not form the basis of judgment.

According to them, the credibility of the trial depends heavily on how transparent and independent the process is, especially in handling serious allegations such as coup plotting.

They appealed to the President to ensure that the proceedings do not become another troubling chapter in the country’s history, but instead reflect fairness and justice under his leadership.

The detained officers were earlier arrested over alleged breaches of military regulations linked to suspected plans to undermine national security, with investigations pointing to coordinated activities involving senior military personnel.

Authorities had previously stated that the arrests were connected to intelligence suggesting possible planning activities targeting key national assets.
