The engagement, organised by the Movement for Credible Elections (MCE), is scheduled to hold on May 25, 2026, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Hall of NICON Luxury Hotel, Abuja, under the theme “Actualizing Credible 2027 Elections in Nigeria.”

According to organisers, the meeting is designed to develop a unified action plan and policy direction that will support electoral transparency, strengthen democratic processes, and promote peaceful participation ahead of the 2027 elections.

The group also disclosed that the initiative will serve as a precursor to a planned engagement with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the coming week.

The proposed gathering is expected to attract prominent national figures, including former presidents, former vice presidents, past presidential candidates, senior lawyers, labour leaders, civil society organisations, and youth advocates.

Among those invited are former President Goodluck Jonathan, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

Also listed are former INEC Chairman Attahiru Jega, labour leaders such as Joe Ajaero, Ayuba Wabba, and Festus Osifo, alongside legal experts including Wole Olanipekun (SAN), Olisa Agbakoba (SAN), and Femi Falana (SAN).

Civil society and governance figures expected include Oby Ezekwesili, Pat Utomi, Chidi Odinkalu, Senator Shehu Sani, Frank Nweke Jnr, Ene Obi, Nkoyo Toyo, Mike Igini, and Olawale Okunniyi.

Political stakeholders and aspirants such as Rotimi Amaechi, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Peter Obi, Omoyele Sowore, Bala Mohammed, Seyi Makinde, Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, and Aminu Tambuwal are also on the invitation list.

Organisers said the initiative is being driven by growing concerns over electoral reforms, judicial interference in election disputes, insecurity, and internal party democracy challenges ahead of 2027.

They emphasized that the goal is to build consensus on minimum standards and reforms necessary to strengthen Nigeria’s democratic and electoral systems.

After the Abuja meeting, the coalition is expected to engage INEC formally on recommendations and proposals emerging from the discussions.
