Abdulaziz Umar Ganduje, the eldest son of former Kano State Governor and ex-APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has joined the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and obtained its nomination form to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives.
He is seeking to represent the Dawakin Tofa/Tofa/Rimin Gado Federal Constituency in Kano State in the upcoming general election.

His move has generated political discussion in Kano State, particularly due to his long-standing association with the Kwankwasiyya political movement led by former Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, despite his father’s strong influence within the All Progressives Congress (APC).

A viral video reportedly showed Abdulaziz meeting with Kwankwaso shortly after picking up his nomination form, where he was said to have briefed the former governor on his political ambition.
The development adds a new dimension to the ongoing political rivalry between Ganduje and Kwankwaso, whose former alliance has evolved into a long-standing political competition in Kano State.

Abdulaziz has reportedly maintained political distance from his father’s faction over the years and has openly aligned with the Kwankwasiyya movement.
His political alignment became more notable following a public dispute involving his mother, Prof. Hafsat Umar Ganduje, which reportedly escalated to a petition submitted to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

He is contesting for the same House of Representatives seat previously sought by his younger brother under the APC in the 2023 general election, a race that was ultimately lost to the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) candidate.
The outcome further highlighted the growing influence of the Kwankwasiyya movement in parts of Kano State.
