The Nigerian military has issued a security alert over possible terrorist attacks during the upcoming Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, citing intelligence reports of planned disruptions by insurgent groups.

The warning was issued in a statement by the spokesperson of Headquarters Joint Task Force North-East, Operation Hadin Kai, Operation Hadin Kai, Lt. Col. Sani Uba.
According to the statement, intelligence reports suggest that remnants of Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province may attempt isolated attacks during the festive period, targeting crowded public places with suicide bombers and improvised explosive devices.

It noted that the military had already activated preventive measures, including the deployment of troops to vulnerable and strategic locations across the theatre of operations.
Surveillance operations have also been intensified, with intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance systems placed on high alert, while coordinated patrols are being carried out across affected areas.
The command further explained that security agencies are working closely with the Civilian Joint Task Force and community vigilance groups to strengthen early warning systems and prevent potential attacks.

Residents were urged to remain alert and provide timely and credible information to security agencies, while traditional rulers, religious leaders, and media organisations were encouraged to support ongoing security efforts.

The military reaffirmed its commitment to denying terrorist groups freedom of action and ensuring a peaceful and secure festive celebration across the North-East region.
