‘MICHAEL’ CLOSES IN ON $800M GLOBAL EARNINGS, SET TO BECOME HIGHEST-GROSSING MUSIC BIOPIC EVER

Michael Jackson Biopic Nears $800 Million at Global Box Office

The highly anticipated Michael Jackson biopic Michael has continued its impressive run at the global box office, earning more than $788 million worldwide as of this weekend, according to reports by Variety.

The film generated an additional $28.5 million overseas during the weekend, bringing its international earnings to $468 million, while domestic revenue now stands at $319 million.

Despite the massive success, the movie is yet to open in Japan, where it is scheduled for release on June 12. Industry analysts believe the Japanese market could push the film beyond the $911 million global record set by Bohemian Rhapsody, potentially making Michael the highest-grossing music biopic in cinema history.

The movie has already surpassed Elvis, which grossed over $288 million globally during its theatrical run.

Directed by Antoine Fuqua, the film premiered in cinemas on April 24 and features an ensemble cast including Jaafar Jackson, Nia Long, Laura Harrier, Miles Teller, and Colman Domingo.

Michael tells the story of the legendary entertainer’s rise from his early days as the lead singer of the The Jackson 5 to becoming one of the most influential performers in music history. The film explores both his personal life and iconic stage performances, giving audiences a deeper look into the man behind the global fame.

The story concludes at the point where Michael Jackson begins reaching the peak of his solo career, leaving room for further exploration of his life and legacy.

Following the movie’s overwhelming commercial success, a sequel is already in development. Executives at Lionsgate have hinted that the next installment will continue exploring later stages of Jackson’s life and career.
