“TROOPS FULLY PAID” — MILITARY DISMISSES CLAIMS OF UNPAID ALLOWANCES

The Nigerian Army has dismissed a viral video alleging that soldiers in the North-East are being denied allowances and that a personnel was victimised for raising concerns.

In a statement issued by the spokesperson for Operation Hadin Kai, the Army described the claims as false and misleading, insisting that all legitimate allowances owed to troops have been fully paid up to May.

The Army explained that payments such as Ration Cash Allowance, Operational Allowance, and Habit Allowance have been consistently disbursed directly to units and individual accounts as appropriate.

It further clarified that the allowance referenced in the video was not part of standard military operational pay, but an additional incentive previously funded by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company during oil exploration activities in Borno State.

According to the statement, funding for the incentive ceased after exploration activities ended, with the Borno State Government later stepping in to manage the arrangement alongside other security agencies.

The Army also denied allegations that the soldier who raised the issue was intimidated or punished, stressing that personnel welfare remains a priority for the institution.

It alleged that the viral video was created by a content producer spreading unverified claims from dissatisfied sources, describing the act as misleading and harmful to national security.

The military warned against the circulation of unverified information about operational matters, stating that such actions could undermine troop morale and violate armed forces social media guidelines.
