Katsina State Governor, Mallam Dikko Radda, has expressed deep sorrow over a fatal road accident that claimed 12 lives along the Kano–Katsina Highway.
The crash occurred on Sunday night at Gidan Mutum Daya around 8:30 pm and involved a head-on collision between a trailer and a vehicle operating under a Public–Private Partnership with the Katsina State Transport Authority.
According to a statement issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, six victims, including the driver, died instantly at the scene, while six others later succumbed to their injuries at the hospital.
Two injured persons are currently receiving treatment at Katsina General Hospital, while five others with minor injuries have been discharged after receiving care.
Governor Radda described the incident as heartbreaking and a painful loss for the state, noting that it occurred during a sacred period in the Islamic calendar, which made the tragedy even more distressing for affected families.
He prayed for the forgiveness of the deceased and asked God to grant them eternal rest, while also offering condolences to the bereaved families and all those affected.
The governor further urged motorists to adhere strictly to road safety rules to prevent similar accidents in the future.
