According to a statement by Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer of the Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), intelligence reports indicate that the terrorist groups may attempt to target civilians using suicide bombers and improvised explosive devices (IEDs), particularly in densely populated areas.

The warning comes as Muslim faithful prepare for the 2026 Eid El Kabir festivities scheduled for Wednesday.

The military command said it has already deployed troops across the region, intensified patrols, and activated intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance assets to protect vulnerable and high-risk locations.

It added that security forces are working in close coordination with sister agencies, the Civilian Joint Task Force, and local vigilance groups to prevent any security breaches during the festive period.

Residents were advised to observe prayers and celebrations close to their homes where possible, avoid large gatherings, and remain vigilant in crowded public places such as markets, motor parks, banks, and prayer grounds.

The statement also urged the public to report suspicious movements or unattended objects to security authorities immediately, avoid unnecessary night movement, and disregard unverified rumours.

Traditional rulers, religious leaders, media organisations, and community stakeholders were also called upon to support security efforts by encouraging timely reporting of credible information.

Operation HADIN KAI reassured residents that troops are fully deployed and prepared to prevent any terrorist activity, stressing that efforts are ongoing to ensure a peaceful and secure Eid celebration across the North East.
