Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi, has emerged victorious in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primary held in Ebonyi State, polling a total of 6,050 votes to defeat former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Muhammad Hayatuddeen.

The result was announced by the Coordinator of Electoral Matters and Returning Officer, Bassey Edogi Imoke, who confirmed that the exercise was conducted peacefully across all wards in the state.
According to the official breakdown, Atiku Abubakar secured 1,210 votes, Amaechi polled 6,050 votes, while Muhammad Hayatuddeen received 4,840 votes in the contest.

Imoke stated that the primary was conducted using a direct voting system across 171 political wards in Ebonyi State, with 12,641 registered delegates and 12,100 accredited participants.
He declared Amaechi the winner, noting that he scored the highest number of valid votes cast and was accordingly returned as the ADC presidential flag bearer in the state for the 2027 general election.

The Ebonyi State ADC leadership described the process as peaceful, transparent, and inclusive, highlighting that it marked a shift from the traditional centralised delegate system to a ward-based voting structure.
Party officials commended the conduct of members and aspirants, stating that the election was free of violence, coercion, or irregularities, and all candidates were given equal opportunity.

The outcome adds to the ongoing internal party processes ahead of the 2027 presidential election as the ADC seeks to position itself as a major opposition force.
