Three Suspected Kidnappers Killed, Abducted Victim Rescued in Oyo Security Operation
Three suspected kidnappers have been killed in a gun battle with security operatives in Oyo State, while an abducted victim was rescued alive during a joint operation in the Otu area of the state.
The operation was carried out by officers of the Oyo State Police Command in collaboration with local hunters and other security agencies as part of ongoing efforts to curb kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, by the Police Public Relations Officer, Ayanlade Olayinka, the operation followed credible intelligence from local hunters who had earlier been attacked by suspected kidnappers during a hunting expedition in Otu, in the Oke-Ogun axis.
“The operation was initiated following a distress call received on 25th May 2026 from local hunters who had gone on a hunting expedition in Otu and came under gunfire attack by suspected kidnappers,” the statement said.
Security operatives reportedly mobilised to the area immediately after receiving the report, leading to a confrontation with the suspects.
During the exchange of fire, three of the suspected kidnappers were killed, while one kidnapped victim was successfully rescued unharmed.
Authorities said the operation forms part of intensified security measures aimed at flushing out criminal elements operating in remote and forested areas of the state.
The police assured residents that efforts are ongoing to track down other members of the gang who escaped during the encounter.
