Jonathan Ratified as PDP Faction’s Presidential Candidate for 2027
Former President Goodluck Jonathan has been officially ratified as the presidential candidate of a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2027 general election.
The ratification took place during a special national convention held in Abuja on Saturday and organised by a PDP faction led by former Minister of Special Duties, Kabiru Turaki.
At the convention, party delegates and leaders unanimously endorsed Jonathan as their consensus presidential candidate and presented a certificate of return on his behalf.

The event was initially scheduled to hold at the A-Class Event Centre in Wuse II, Abuja. However, organisers were unable to use the venue and later moved the gathering to the PDP national office in Area 10, Garki, where the ratification process was concluded.
Speaking during the convention, party leaders described the exercise as a formal confirmation of an earlier decision that adopted Jonathan as the faction’s preferred candidate for the 2027 presidential election.
They stated that the presentation of the party’s flag to the former president would be conducted at a later date, with details of the ceremony to be announced subsequently.
The development comes amid ongoing divisions within the PDP, with different factions laying claim to the party’s leadership and pursuing separate political strategies ahead of the next general election.
