NDLEA INTERCEPTS MILITARY-GRADE AMMUNITION IN KADUNA, ARRESTS COUPLE

NDLEA Intercepts 380 Military-Grade Ammunition on Abuja–Kaduna Highway, Hands Over Suspect

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted 380 rounds of military-grade ammunition along the Abuja–Kaduna highway in Kaduna State, in a major security operation that has raised fresh concerns over arms movement across the country.

The agency confirmed that the ammunition was recovered from a 30-year-old suspect, Sunusi Musa, during a routine patrol at Jere on May 24, 2026. The suspect was allegedly transporting the ammunition to Katsina State before he was intercepted by operatives.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, the recovered items consisted of 380 rounds of 7.62mm military-grade bullets.

“In another interdiction operation in Kaduna State, NDLEA officers on patrol along the Abuja-Kaduna highway by Jere intercepted a 30-year-old suspect, Sunusi Musa, with 380 military-grade ammunition, RLA 7.62mm, going to Katsina State. The suspect and the exhibit have since been handed over to the appropriate security agency for further action,” the statement read.

The agency added that the suspect has since been transferred alongside the exhibits to the relevant security authorities for further investigation.

The interception comes amid intensified nationwide efforts to curb the illegal movement of arms and ammunition and strengthen internal security.

In a separate operation, NDLEA operatives also arrested a couple, Musa Sunday and Mercy Sunday, alongside another suspect, Salomi Ezekiel, after recovering 100 jumbo bags of skunk weighing 1,246 kilograms in Gonin Gora, Kaduna State.

Elsewhere in Lagos, the agency uncovered illicit drugs cleverly concealed inside water purifier machines imported from the Netherlands. The consignment included three kilograms of ketamine and 199 grams of MDMA (Ecstasy), discovered at a courier company on May 26.

In Niger State, officers raided a warehouse in Gidan Kukah, Bosso Local Government Area, where 457 kilograms of skunk were recovered. One suspect, Godwin Zakka, was arrested in connection with the seizure.

In another operation along the Onitsha–Enugu Expressway, NDLEA operatives intercepted a commercial vehicle carrying 22,000 tramadol pills, 100 ampoules of pentazocine, and 200 grams of bromazepam. A suspect identified as James Maigari Wisdom was also arrested.

NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Mohammed Buba Marwa, commended the officers involved in the various operations and urged them to sustain their efforts in the fight against drug trafficking and abuse across the country.
