APC Picks Damilola Sonayon-James as Deputy Governorship Candidate for 2027 Lagos Poll
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced Princess Damilola Sonayon-James as its deputy governorship candidate for the 2027 Lagos State governorship election.
Sonayon-James, a native of Badagry, will contest alongside the party’s governorship candidate, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, in the 2027 election.
A seasoned politician, business executive, and sustainability advocate, Sonayon-James is widely recognised for her grassroots political involvement and consistent support for greater female participation in leadership and governance.
She currently serves as the Deputy State Chairman of the APC in Lagos State. Before attaining the position, she held office as the party’s State Assistant Woman Leader and played an active role in strengthening the party’s structure across the state.

Her public service experience also includes serving as Supervisory Councillor for Agriculture and Social Services in the Badagry West Local Council Development Area, where she contributed to community development initiatives.
Academically, Sonayon-James holds a Master’s degree in Social Work from the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology and a degree in Business and Human Resources Management from the University of Hull.
Outside politics, she has built a career in human resources, logistics, and sustainability management. She is the Chief Executive Officer of DGS Chauffeurs and Logistics, a company operating in the transportation and logistics sector.
Her emergence as the APC deputy governorship candidate positions her as one of the key figures in the party’s preparations for the 2027 governorship election in Lagos State, where she will partner with Hamzat in seeking to retain the state for the ruling party.
