Families of victims abducted from the Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State have raised alarm after reports emerged that suspected terrorists are planning a Quranic graduation ceremony for over 100 women and children held in captivity.
According to the families, the information was obtained during recent phone contact with the abductors, who claimed the captives had undergone months of religious instruction, including Islamic teachings, etiquette, and Quran memorisation.
The victims were among 176 women and children kidnapped months ago during an attack on Woro community that left several residents dead.
Relatives said the abductors told them that many of the captives had reached a level where they could “graduate” after completing what they described as structured religious training. They further alleged that the group insisted the cost of organising the ceremony would later be included in ransom negotiations with both the government and families.
Family members described the situation as deeply distressing, expressing fear over the prolonged captivity and the psychological impact on the victims. They said the prolonged separation has raised concerns about possible indoctrination and worsening conditions for those still being held.
Community representatives involved in discussions around the abductees’ release also noted that the development highlights how long the victims have remained in captivity and the urgent need for stronger intervention to secure their freedom.
