HOUSE OF REPS MINORITY LEADER RESIGNS, DUMPS PDP FOR APC

Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Kingsley Chinda, has officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) after leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The development was made known during Tuesday’s plenary session when Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, read a letter informing lawmakers of Chinda’s decision to switch parties.

The letter, dated April 23, 2026, put an end to growing speculation about the political direction of the Rivers State lawmaker.

Following his move to the APC, Chinda stepped down from his role as Minority Leader, leaving vacant one of the key opposition leadership positions in the House.

Representing Obio/Akpor Federal Constituency, Chinda recently secured the APC governorship ticket for the 2027 Rivers State election after emerging victorious in the party’s primary election without opposition.

His emergence as the party’s candidate attracted widespread attention, particularly because he was serving as Minority Leader, a position typically occupied by a member of the leading opposition party in the House of Representatives.

The latest political development is expected to reshape the balance of opposition leadership within the Green Chamber as lawmakers consider a replacement for the vacant position.
