The announcement was made in a letter to invited guests by the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Amandla Institute, Prof Adebayo Olukoshi, who explained that the event could no longer proceed as planned.

According to the statement, Mbeki, who was billed to deliver the keynote address, cancelled his trip to Nigeria after the family bereavement over the weekend.

The institute expressed regret over the development, noting that the decision was necessary in light of the circumstances.

It also extended apologies to participants and stakeholders affected by the postponement, while asking supporters to keep Mbeki and his family in their thoughts and prayers.

No new date has been fixed for the event.
