Osun State Police Command has ordered a suspension of all political rallies in Oriade Local Government Area, citing credible intelligence and growing security concerns that could lead to violence.
The directive was issued in a statement on Tuesday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, following approval from the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan.
According to the police, the decision became necessary due to what it described as the “non-cooperative attitude” of some political actors, despite earlier efforts to mediate and maintain peace in the area.
The Command explained that attempts to hold a peace meeting between the concerned parties failed, leading to heightened tensions and fears of a possible breakdown of law and order.
It stated that the suspension of rallies is a preventive measure aimed at safeguarding lives and property, maintaining public order, and ensuring stability in the affected local government area.
All political parties, candidates, supporters, and residents have been urged to comply with the directive in the interest of peace and security.
The police further reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring safety across Osun State, calling on citizens to remain law-abiding and cooperate fully with security agencies.
