‘IT’S NONSENSICAL TO SUPPORT OBI AND DISPARAGE ME, NDC’ — SERIAKE DICKSON

The founder and national leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Senator Seriake Dickson, has urged supporters of the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to stop attacking the party and its leadership, warning that such actions could undermine Obi’s chances ahead of the 2027 elections.

ADS 5   Speaking in an interview with ARISE NEWS on Wednesday, Dickson dismissed claims of internal crisis within the party, insisting that the NDC remains stable and united despite disagreements that followed its recent primary elections.

He criticised some supporters of Obi for disparaging the party, arguing that it was counterproductive for individuals backing a candidate to simultaneously undermine the political platform he is contesting under.

According to him, the NDC serves as the political vehicle for Peter Obi and his running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, and weakening the party would ultimately harm their presidential ambition.

Dickson maintained that there is no leadership crisis within the party, describing reports of instability as exaggerated and noting that the NDC continues to enjoy growing public support.

He acknowledged that some aspirants raised concerns about the conduct of the party’s primaries but admitted that imperfections were expected, especially under the direct primary system and tight electoral timelines.

The former Bayelsa State governor also addressed claims regarding the treatment of activist Aisha Yesufu, stating that the party remains open and inclusive to all members while stressing that internal processes must be respected.

He rejected allegations that the party sells nomination tickets to the highest bidder, insisting that financial status is not the determining factor in securing political tickets within the NDC.

Dickson further disclosed that both Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso joined the party without paying any fees and are actively working with the leadership to strengthen its structure ahead of the elections.

He expressed confidence that the party would remain united and focused, noting that rising public concerns over insecurity, economic hardship and governance challenges are driving demand for political change.
