President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep shock over the death of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, who died while being held by terrorists in Katsina State.
The Katsina State Government had earlier confirmed the death of the former senior military officer, describing the incident as a tragic loss to his family, the state, and the nation. It was also stated that he reportedly died from complications linked to diabetes and hypertension while still in captivity.

In a reaction issued through the Presidency, the President described the late General as a distinguished officer who served the country with honour before retiring from active military service. He noted that Abubakar was abducted while travelling to his hometown before being taken hostage by armed criminals.

The President extended his condolences to the bereaved family, particularly the wife of the deceased, who remains in captivity, as well as to the government of Katsina State and the Nigerian Armed Forces.
Tinubu also reiterated the Federal Government’s hard stance against terrorism and kidnapping, warning that criminal groups and their sponsors would continue to face sustained military pressure.

He stressed that the government would not yield to demands that involve the release of detained suspects in exchange for hostages, insisting that security forces would continue operations aimed at dismantling terrorist networks across the country.
The President further called for national unity in confronting insecurity, expressing confidence that ongoing efforts by security agencies would eventually overcome terrorist and insurgent groups.

He added that the death of the retired General should serve as a renewed motivation in the fight against insecurity and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to restoring peace and stability nationwide.
