DHQ LAUNCHES ‘OPERATION CLEAN SWEEP III’ IN KATSINA AFTER RETIRED GENERAL ABUBAKAR’S DEATH

The Joint Task Force North West under Operation Fansan Yamma has commenced a large-scale military operation known as Operation Clean Sweep III aimed at flushing out terrorists and bandits operating in Matazu Local Government Area and nearby communities in Katsina State.

The operation, which began on June 14, 2026, is focused on identifying and eliminating criminal elements responsible for recent attacks, disrupting their networks, and improving security across affected areas.

The renewed military action comes in the wake of the abduction and death of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, who was kidnapped alongside his wife by armed criminals. Reports indicated that the retired military officer died while in captivity after suffering health complications related to diabetes and hypertension. He was buried on Sunday in Katsina following funeral prayers attended by family members, colleagues, and sympathizers.

Security forces involved in the operation have intensified fighting patrols, intelligence-driven raids, search operations, and clearance missions across locations believed to be used by terrorists and bandits.

Military authorities disclosed that troops recorded notable successes around the Dikkawa Hills and surrounding settlements. Operations carried out in Adua, Nasarawa, and Karaduwa reportedly resulted in the destruction of several criminal hideouts, logistics hubs, and support structures used by armed groups, reducing their ability to operate effectively.

The offensive is being conducted with support from other security agencies and local stakeholders as part of broader efforts to strengthen security and restore peace in the region.

Military commanders assured residents of Matazu and neighboring communities that efforts would continue to protect lives and property while restricting the activities and movement of criminal groups.

Residents were also encouraged to provide useful information that could assist security agencies in identifying and apprehending suspects, with assurances that all intelligence received would be handled discreetly.

Authorities stated that military pressure on terrorists and bandits will continue until the goals of Operation Clean Sweep III are fully accomplished.
