The development was disclosed by the Commander-General of the Kano State Hisbah Corps, Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, during a media briefing in Kano.

Daurawa explained that all prospective couples will undergo mandatory medical screenings before the wedding. The tests will cover HIV, hepatitis, genotype compatibility, pregnancy status and other health checks aimed at ensuring the well-being of the couples.

He revealed that each couple will receive support valued at approximately ₦1 million, including household essentials such as beds, mattresses, bedsheets, pillows, furniture and food items to help them begin married life comfortably.

In addition, a dowry of ₦100,000 will be provided for every bride, while another ₦100,000 will be given as start-up capital to encourage small-scale business activities after the wedding ceremony.

According to Daurawa, the mass wedding initiative is part of the commitments made by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf during his campaign and reflects the administration’s efforts to support families and promote social welfare.

He further stated that the Hisbah Corps has advised intending couples on the importance of resolving marital issues through appropriate channels before considering divorce.

The Hisbah chief also urged participants to pay close attention to genotype compatibility, noting that proper screening can help reduce the risks associated with sickle cell disorder among children.

He added that the official date for the mass wedding ceremony will be announced once final approval is received from the state governor.
