Troops under Operation Fansan Yamma have intensified military actions in Katsina State as part of an ongoing offensive tagged Operation Clean Sweep III, aimed at flushing out terrorist and bandit elements from Matazu Local Government Area and surrounding communities.
According to military authorities, the operation was launched following the killing of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, who was reportedly abducted alongside his wife by suspected terrorists in the region.
A statement from the Media Information Office of Operation Fansan Yamma explained that the mission is focused on tracking down those responsible, dismantling criminal networks, and restoring security in affected areas.
Since the commencement of the operation on June 14, 2026, troops have conducted a series of coordinated missions including fighting patrols, intelligence-led raids, cordon-and-search exercises, and clearance operations across identified hideouts.
Military sources reported notable progress in areas around Dikkawa Hills and nearby communities, where suspected criminal locations were targeted.
Further clearance operations were also carried out in communities such as Adua, Nasarawa, and Karaduwa, where several suspected hideouts were searched. During these missions, troops discovered and destroyed structures believed to have been used by armed groups for logistics and operational support.
Security authorities stated that these actions are aimed at weakening the operational capacity of terrorist and bandit groups operating in the region.
The operation is being conducted in collaboration with other security agencies and local stakeholders to strengthen overall security efforts in Katsina State.
The Theatre Command of the Joint Task Force, Operation Fansan Yamma, assured residents of continued efforts to safeguard lives and property, while encouraging communities to provide timely and credible intelligence to support ongoing military operations.
Residents were also assured that all information shared with security agencies would be treated with confidentiality.
The military reiterated its commitment to maintaining pressure on criminal elements until lasting stability is achieved in the affected areas.
