Polaris Bank has dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that dozens of people lost their lives in a fire outbreak at its Broad Street branch in Lagos, insisting that the information is false.

In a statement released after the incident, the bank clarified that the fire started from a customer’s vehicle parked on the third-floor parking area of the building. It added that emergency protocols were immediately activated, leading to a swift response from firefighters and other emergency personnel.
The bank confirmed that no deaths or injuries were recorded during the incident and urged the public to disregard claims suggesting that more than 30 people were killed.

Polaris Bank also stated that investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the fire while expressing appreciation to emergency responders, customers, employees and stakeholders for their cooperation and support.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that the fire was successfully contained without any casualties. According to the agency, emergency responders received a distress call concerning a vehicle fire on the third floor of the 17-storey building located on Broad Street, Lagos Island.

Firefighters quickly arrived at the scene and prevented the blaze from spreading to other vehicles and parts of the building. Officials said the damage was limited to the affected vehicle and nearby areas.
Authorities further confirmed that normal activities have resumed in the area following the successful completion of firefighting operations. The incident had generated concern online after unverified reports alleged multiple deaths, claims that have now been rejected by both the bank and emergency authorities.
