President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared that the newly completed Phase I of the Kuje–Gwagwalada Dual Carriageway marks the end of decades of hardship experienced by residents, traders, farmers, and commuters along the route. Speaking through Vice President Kashim Shettima during the commissioning ceremony in Abuja, Tinubu described the road as a critical infrastructure project that will boost security, commerce, and economic development.

The President said the road had long been a “death trap,” causing delays, economic losses, and security concerns for people travelling between Kuje, Gwagwalada, Kwali, and surrounding communities. He noted that the new dual carriageway, equipped with solar-powered streetlights, pedestrian walkways, and drainage systems, will improve mobility, enhance safety, and unlock the area’s agricultural potential.

Tinubu reiterated his administration’s commitment to ensuring that no community is left behind in the country’s development agenda, stressing that infrastructure projects are being extended beyond city centres to satellite towns and rural communities. He also commended FCT Minister Nyesom Wike for driving development projects across the Federal Capital Territory.
Wike explained that the project emerged from consultations with local stakeholders who identified poor road infrastructure as a major challenge. He added that while the first phase has been completed, the second phase is expected to be delivered before the end of the year.
