TODAY, THE NDC HAS FILED AN APPEAL AGAINST THE RULING AS WELL AS A STAY OF EXECUTION/INJUNCTION, WHICH HAS BEEN SERVED WITH A COVERING LETTER TO THE INEC CHAIRMAN AND HIS TEAM TO DO WHAT IS RIGHT ACCORDING TO LAW AND WHAT IS LEGALLY SENSIBLE.

The National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has reaffirmed that the party remains a legally registered political party and has successfully participated in all required electoral processes ahead of the forthcoming elections.

According to the party leader, the NDC has concluded its primary elections nationwide, producing candidates for various elective positions in exercises monitored and documented by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

He stated that the party has already been granted access to INEC’s portal to upload the names of its candidates, adding that the names of both the National Leader and the party’s presidential candidate have already been submitted. He noted that the vice-presidential candidate’s details would be uploaded after the completion of the necessary documentation, while submissions for other candidates are also ongoing.

The statement explained that the party remains fully compliant with the electoral timetable, with sufficient time available to upload the names of National Assembly candidates before the deadline and subsequently submit those of governorship and State House of Assembly candidates.

The NDC leader urged members and supporters not to be concerned, assuring them that the candidate submission process is progressing smoothly.

He also appreciated all party members who contested during the primaries, acknowledging that while only one aspirant could emerge victorious for each position, the party remains committed to carrying everyone along.

According to him, reconciliation efforts have already commenced to address grievances arising from the primary elections. He added that unsuccessful aspirants would continue to play active roles in the party through campaign activities, committees and other organisational structures.

The party leader congratulated all successful candidates and thanked members, supporters and Nigerians for their continued confidence in the party and in the country’s democratic process.

He stressed the need to preserve Nigeria’s multi-party democracy, warning against actions capable of weakening democratic institutions.

The statement also commended INEC for what it described as its professionalism, particularly regarding the registration of the NDC and two other political parties following a court directive, as well as its handling of legal matters involving opposition parties.

He further called on key national institutions, including the judiciary, electoral commission and security agencies, to remain impartial and continue protecting the integrity of Nigeria’s democratic system.

The party confirmed that it has filed an appeal and the necessary legal applications concerning the ongoing court matter, expressing confidence that the judiciary will deliver its decision in accordance with the law.
