Former President Goodluck Jonathan has rejected claims that he was offered N500 billion to participate in the 2027 presidential election as part of an alleged plan to divide votes in the South-South region and weaken Peter Obi’s chances.
Jonathan’s media aide, Ikechukwu Eze, dismissed the report as false and fabricated, saying it was designed to create unnecessary political controversy around the former president.

According to Eze, the publication did not provide any evidence to support the allegation, as it failed to mention when or where Jonathan supposedly made the claim, who was involved in the alleged offer, or any witnesses who could confirm the story.
He stated that Jonathan was never involved in any arrangement involving financial inducement to contest the presidency or influence the outcome of the 2027 election against any candidate.

The former president’s aide urged Nigerians to ignore the report and advised the public to verify politically sensitive claims before sharing them, noting that election periods often witness increased circulation of misinformation.
The denial comes amid ongoing speculation over Jonathan’s possible return to active politics ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Reports in recent months have linked the former president with a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which had reportedly named him as its preferred presidential candidate for the upcoming election.
However, no official flag presentation has taken place, with the deadline for political parties to submit presidential nomination details to the Independent National Electoral Commission drawing closer.
