A joint operation involving the Delta State SafeCity Security Service and the Delta State Police Command has led to the arrest of a suspected notorious bandit, Abubakar Usman, following the successful rescue of a kidnapped woman.
The victim, Mrs. Blessing Chiedu from Umunede Kingdom, was abducted on July 2, 2026, along Ani-Ifekide Farm Road in Ubulu-Uku. Her kidnappers reportedly demanded a ransom of ₦100 million from her family.
The spokesperson for the SafeCity Security Service, Harrison Gwamnishu, disclosed that the incident was immediately escalated, prompting the Anti-Kidnapping Squad of the Delta State Police Command, led by CSP Osakpolor, to launch a rescue operation.
Using the Hydra Tech Surveillance System, security operatives tracked the kidnappers and successfully rescued the victim alive and without injuries along the Ubulu-Unor/Ashama Road.
Following the rescue, security personnel intensified efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects. In the early hours of Wednesday, surveillance technology led operatives to the gang’s hideout in the Ogwashi-Uku/Adonta Forest.
A gunfight broke out during the operation, with security forces overpowering the suspects. Abubakar Usman was arrested, while other members of the gang reportedly escaped into the forest with their weapons.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect and his gang have allegedly been linked to multiple kidnapping incidents across Igbodo, Umunede, and nearby communities, where families were forced to pay millions of naira in ransom.
Authorities said investigations are ongoing as efforts continue to track down the remaining members of the criminal group.
