ALLEGED THREAT AGAINST SEYI TINUBU LANDS DJ CHICKEN IN KIRIKIRI CUSTODY

Popular Nigerian content creator DJ Chicken has been remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre after pleading not guilty to charges arising from a viral video in which he allegedly threatened Seyi Tinubu while discussing the 2027 presidential election.

The social media personality appeared before Magistrate M.F. Onamusi on a three-count charge involving alleged threat to life, conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace, and offences under the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015.

According to the prosecution, the case is based on a video shared on DJ Chicken’s social media platforms in which he allegedly made threatening remarks directed at Seyi Tinubu during comments about the 2027 election.

Prosecutors argued that the statements constituted a threat to life under the Criminal Law of Lagos State and also violated provisions of the Cybercrime Act.

Following public criticism, DJ Chicken released another video in which he withdrew his remarks, claiming they were intended as a joke to attract attention and insisting that he had no intention of harming Seyi Tinubu.

The court heard that the first charge relates to an alleged threat to kill, while the second accuses him of transmitting a grossly offensive and menacing message through a computer network. The third charge alleges that his actions were capable of causing a breach of the peace and were intended to intimidate or embarrass the complainant.

DJ Chicken pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

The court granted him bail in the sum of ₦1 million with two sureties in like sum. One surety must be a government employee, while the other must be a recognized community leader who owns landed property in Lagos State. Both sureties are required to provide three years of tax clearance, a Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA) card, a National Identification Number (NIN), and recent utility bills. One of the sureties must also be a blood relative of the defendant.

Pending the fulfilment of the bail conditions, Magistrate Onamusi ordered that DJ Chicken be remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre.

The case was adjourned until August 3, 2026, for further hearing.
