A faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced the successful submission of details of its presidential and National Assembly candidates for the 2027 general elections to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) nomination portal.

The faction, led by its National Chairman, Hon. Nafiu Bala Gombe, said the process was completed in line with the provisions of Section 29(1) of the Electoral Act 2022 and INEC’s nomination requirements.

As part of the submission process, the group named Dr. Shamsuddeen Modibbo Barkindo as its vice-presidential candidate for the 2027 presidential election.
Gombe described the development as an important step in the party’s preparations for the upcoming elections, stating that the nomination process was carried out in accordance with electoral laws and guidelines.

The faction also confirmed Prof. Chris Uba as its presidential candidate, with Barkindo selected as his running mate.

According to submitted documents, Uba, 71, is an indigene of Anambra State and studied at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, as well as institutions in the United Kingdom. Barkindo, 65, who hails from Adamawa State, received his education at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

The faction said Barkindo’s selection demonstrates its intention to present experienced and capable leaders who can tackle the country’s challenges.
It added that the candidates’ nomination documents were properly endorsed by the faction’s leadership and submitted alongside the required sworn affidavits under the Electoral Act.

The announcement comes at a time when the ADC is facing internal leadership disagreements, with different groups claiming control of the party’s national structure.
