Victor Osimhen is set to become the new captain of Galatasaray following the departure of long-serving skipper Mauro Icardi.
The leadership change comes after Icardi officially left the Turkish champions at the end of his contract, bringing an end to a successful four-year spell with the club during which he won four domestic league titles.
Reports indicate that Osimhen, who served as the team’s deputy vice-captain last season, will now take over the captain’s armband ahead of the new campaign.
The Nigerian striker has established himself as one of Galatasaray’s key players under manager Okan Buruk, playing an important role in the club’s recent league successes.
In addition to being named captain, Galatasaray are also reportedly preparing to hand Osimhen the iconic No. 9 shirt previously worn by Icardi.
The move is widely seen as the club’s effort to make the Super Eagles forward the central figure of its long-term project while strengthening his commitment to the Istanbul-based side amid continued interest from several top European clubs.
