The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), in collaboration with Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited, has launched a training programme aimed at preparing 300 young Nigerians for careers in the oil and gas industry.
The initiative, known as the NCDMB–Renaissance Oil and Gas Field Readiness Training Programme, is designed to provide graduates with practical and technical skills in mechanical, electrical and instrumentation engineering.

The 12-month programme will consist of three months of classroom instruction followed by nine months of on-the-job training with partner companies in the oil and gas sector. Of the 300 participants selected, 240 will undergo training in Lagos, while the remaining 60 will be based in Port Harcourt.
Speaking at the programme’s launch, the Executive Secretary of NCDMB, Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe, said the initiative supports the board’s goal of developing local talent, increasing Nigerian participation in the energy sector and promoting economic growth.
Represented by the Assistant Manager of Human Capacity Development, Tari Bufazi, Ogbe explained that participants would gain practical industry experience and earn internationally recognised certifications upon completion.

He noted that expertise in mechanical, electrical and instrumentation engineering remains essential to ensuring the safe and efficient operation of Nigeria’s oil and gas industry, particularly as new investment projects emerge.
Ogbe encouraged the trainees to make the most of the opportunity, describing the programme as a pathway to becoming skilled professionals, innovators and future leaders in the energy sector.
The General Manager of Nigerian Content Development at Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited, Engr. Olarenwaju Lanre Olawuyi, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to strengthening local capacity through investments in human capital development.

Represented by Engr. Funso Alabi, he said the programme combines classroom learning with hands-on industry experience to equip participants with practical skills in mechanical systems, electrical operations, instrumentation, software development, networking and cybersecurity.
He added that the practical training would help bridge the gap between academic knowledge and workplace expectations while promoting professionalism, teamwork, integrity and a strong safety culture.

Also speaking, the Chief Executive Officer of Radial Circle, Ranti Omole, described the initiative as a valuable opportunity for young Nigerians seeking careers in the global energy industry.
He revealed that the 300 trainees were selected after a rigorous screening process involving thousands of applicants drawn from the NCDMB database.
