Tension erupted in the Gero community of Jos South Local Government Area, Plateau State, on Monday after the bodies of two unidentified women were discovered behind the local government secretariat.
The incident triggered protests by women in the community, who marched through the area and temporarily blocked part of the expressway, causing significant traffic congestion.
Residents said the bodies were discovered early in the morning, attracting a large crowd to the scene. The shocking discovery prompted calls for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
Angered by the incident, women in the community staged a peaceful demonstration, demanding that the government and security agencies identify the victims and ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
The protest disrupted vehicular movement for several hours before security personnel, including police officers and soldiers, arrived to restore order and reopen the affected road.
Security officials appealed to residents to remain calm, avoid spreading unverified information and allow investigators to carry out a comprehensive inquiry into the incident.
Authorities also urged motorists and commuters to cooperate with security personnel while maintaining peace and public order.
