Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has dismissed comparisons between President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima with opposition presidential candidates ahead of the 2027 general election, insisting that the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket remains unmatched.
Speaking on Tuesday during an interview on a television programme, Sule defended the Tinubu administration’s performance, saying its achievements would play a major role in securing another electoral victory in 2027.
Responding to questions about the APC ticket and opposition pairings such as Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso, as well as Atiku Abubakar and Rotimi Amaechi, the governor said there was no meaningful comparison.
According to him, President Tinubu’s record in office, leadership style, courage, and long-term vision distinguish him from other contenders.
Sule acknowledged that insecurity remains one of Nigeria’s biggest challenges but argued that the problem predates the current administration and should not be blamed solely on the government.
He maintained that despite security concerns, the administration has recorded notable achievements in infrastructure development, education, and economic reforms.
The governor highlighted the impact of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), improvements in the capital market, and ongoing infrastructure projects as examples of the administration’s progress.
He also expressed confidence that President Tinubu’s bid for re-election would be based on the government’s performance rather than any form of electoral manipulation.
Sule further stated that the APC remains politically strong, pointing to the party’s control of 31 state governments as evidence of its nationwide support.
Addressing criticism of the Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket, the governor defended the arrangement, arguing that it has not led to the exclusion of any religious group from governance.
He recalled the late MKO Abiola’s presidential campaign, saying leadership should be determined by competence and capacity rather than religious identity.
His comments come as political parties continue to position themselves ahead of the 2027 general election.
In the 2023 presidential election, Tinubu and Shettima emerged victorious on the APC platform, defeating Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP), and Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
As preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum, the opposition has undergone major political realignments, with Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso now flying the flag of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), while Atiku Abubakar and Rotimi Amaechi are leading another opposition coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
