President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the establishment of a new Nigerian Army battalion in Omu-Aran, located in Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, to improve security and strengthen military operations in the state.
The approval was announced by the Deputy Chief Press Secretary to the Kwara State Governor, Mashood AbdulRafiu Agboola, who said the new military base is expected to boost efforts to tackle insecurity, especially in areas affected by banditry, kidnapping and other criminal activities.
Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq welcomed the development, describing it as a significant step towards improving security across the state. He expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for approving the request and commended the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, for facilitating the process.
According to the governor, the new battalion will provide additional military personnel and operational support to strengthen the fight against bandits, terrorists and other criminal groups threatening communities in the state.
He expressed confidence that the military formation would enhance counter-terrorism and anti-kidnapping operations, while improving the overall safety of residents across Kwara.
The governor also praised the Office of the National Security Adviser, the Nigerian Armed Forces, the Department of State Services, the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies for their continued efforts in addressing security challenges.
He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to supporting joint security operations aimed at combating kidnapping, violent crimes and other threats to public safety.
