The Delta State Police Command has arrested 22 suspects and rescued two children during an intelligence-driven operation targeting suspected drug trafficking locations and criminal hideouts in Ozoro and Abraka communities.
The operation, which took place on July 21, was carried out as part of ongoing efforts by the police to combat illegal drug activities and associated crimes across the state.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed that the raid was conducted by operatives led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations following credible intelligence gathered on suspected criminal locations.
According to the police, the operation covered areas including Ofagbe Community in Ozoro, Ekrejeta and the NUT Area in Abraka, where officers arrested 22 suspects made up of 19 males and three females.
The suspects were arrested for alleged involvement in the sale, possession and distribution of illicit substances.
During the operation, police officers also discovered two minors inside a suspected drug hideout allegedly operated by their father. The children were immediately rescued and placed under protective care.
The police said the minors would later be transferred to the Delta State Ministry of Women Affairs for proper welfare and protection, while investigations into the activities of the suspects continue.
Reacting to the development, Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, described the discovery of children in an alleged drug environment as disturbing.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to dismantling drug networks and protecting vulnerable members of society, while urging parents, community leaders and residents to continue providing useful information to security agencies.
The commissioner assured residents that the police would continue intelligence-based operations aimed at reducing drug-related crimes and other criminal activities across Delta State.
